AutoStore AS today announced seven new features for its automated storage and retrieval system, or ASRS, as part of its Fall 2025 product portfolio.

“About 18 months ago, we sat down with over 100 customers, industry experts, and some of our partners, and asked what the biggest needs that they’re looking to anticipate in their future that we could help solve for them,” Parth Joshi, the chief product officer at AutoStore, told Automated Warehouse. “We came up with a strategy at that point to continue optimizing our solution, and also, secondly, to bring in new solutions that could solve additional things that we weren’t solving at that point in time.”

The result of this data-driven effort is seven new features for the AutoStore system. These are led by AutoCase, which automates the movement of full cases in and out of storage. The portfolio also introduces FlexBins, allowing multiple bin sizes in one grid to expand SKU assortment, increase density, and support consolidation and buffering.

Other new features include the Frozen-Only Grid and CarouselAI enhancements, as well as features to ease implementation and reduce ownership costs, including fire standards, floor flatness mitigation, and CubeDeploy.

Founded in 1997, AutoStore develops technology-driven, intelligent order fulfillment systems. Its ASRS uses Red Line robots that navigate a grid to deliver goods to picking stations. The Nedre Vats, Norway-based company has deployed its systems across 1,700 sites with 80,000 bots deployed.

AutoCase automates full case loading and unloading

AutoCase automates the loading and unloading of full cases, making it possible to move cases into storage and then pick eaches until empty. AutoStore said this is a simple but powerful capability for high-volume warehouses.

“AutoCase, for us, is a massive product launch,” Joshi said. “What we’re adding to the mix is the ability to automatically induct, extract, and store full cases into the same AutoStore system. These are new technologies.”

Joshi said AutoCase will be good for all of AutoStore’s key customers in e-commerce, retail, industrials, electronics, and pharmaceuticals.

“Specifically, those with e-commerce and apparel are very interested in this,” he said. “They take in full boxes, and they usually want to ship out some individual ones. When you order shirts or pants, they take that out until that box is done.”

Another key enhancement is FlexBins, which allows for different bin sizes in a single Grid, which can boost storage density and SKU assortment. Joshi noted that both of these enhancements came directly in response to customer needs.

“We get data analytics and customer feedback from across our sites,” he said. “Many of the things, like FlexBins, came directly from dozens of customers saying, ‘Hey, we love your system. It’s perfect. But if it can do this one additional thing, we could use it even more and buy more sites.’ So both case handling and FlexBins came from those customers and existing sites we have out there.”

Frozen-Only Grid expands AutoStore use cases

AutoStore is expanding its Multi-Temperature systems with a new Frozen-Only Grid. This is a dedicated system for temperature-controlled storage that reduces energy use and improves worker safety, the company said. The system will launch next year.

“One of the key things we were being asked for is a frozen-only solution where all the picking is done at a higher temperature, and then the frozen-only stuff is stored in the grid,” explained Joshi. “So we’ve been able to update our technology, the way the bots work, and how the thermodynamics work within the system, to be able to support a frozen-only solution.”

The company also announced enhancements to the Carousel AI system it developed with Berkshire Grey and launched earlier this year. It now improves bin placement for faster retrieval, adds outbound routing options, and supports lighter item handling, AutoStore said.

AutoStore hopes to make ASRS easier to deploy

AutoStore has introduced new fire standards and floor flatness updates to make its systems easier to deploy. New laser scanning and shim technology eliminates costly floor grinding before installations. This will reduce disruption and speed up deployments, it said. Joshi highlighted how these two technologies improve deployments.

“One is easing how we do the floor flatness, a better way to measure it, and then a second way to fix where the floor needs to be remedied,” he noted. “These things together could save up to 50% of the time of the floor pieces of the implementation process.”

CubeDeploy is a single installer, making it faster and simpler to update AutoStore software. The company said this keeps its systems secure, up to date, and operational with minimal downtime.

In addition, a new lower-pressure sprinkler design cuts installation costs by up to 35% while maintaining safety. AutoStore said that with these features, customers can benefit from faster builds and lower upfront investment.

What’s next for AutoStore

Joshi said AutoStore has plans to continue improving its system, with plans for an early 2026 release with a software focus. He said the company’s strategy is built on four main pillars.

“One is continuing to optimize the cube to make sure it’s best in class and provides the right value to the customers,” Joshi said. “Second is expanding the core capabilities that we can solve with our system. Frozen is a good example of using the cube to do something more.”

“The third is adding new capabilities and new processes. AutoCase is a perfect example where we take adjacent processes done by others — storing cases — and bring it into an AutoStore,” he added. “The fourth is going to be continued investment in our AutoStore software portfolio.”
