Oso Electric Equipment has acquired Electric Sheep Robotics, which provides AI-driven autonomous mowing robots. The merger will bring together Oso’s electric powertrain technology with Electric Sheep’s robotics and machine learning systems.

“In combination with Oso’s state-of-the-art EV technology, our AI engine now rides on the most reliable electric outdoor power equipment in the business,” said Nag Murty, founder and CEO of Electric Sheep.

“This merger supercharges our mission to automate the future of all outdoor work, spanning outdoor infrastructure, construction and maintenance, agriculture, defense, and space exploration, delivering products that are as intuitive as they are impactful,” he added. “Together, we’re unlocking a world where sustainability and smarts go hand in hand.’

Oso acquisition follows partnership

The acquisition builds on the companies’ partnership announced earlier this year, in which Oso introduced a 21-in. (53.3 cm) Commercial Electric Smart Lawn Mower using Electric Sheep’s AI platform.

The partners said the combined entity will expand access to zero-emission, autonomous outdoor power equipment designed for tough commercial environments, from sprawling properties to GPS-denied tight urban spaces. Deployments are already under way in California and Texas.

“This acquisition is a launchpad for revolutionizing the outdoor work ecosystem,” said Nag Rao, CEO of Oso Electric Equipment. “Electric Sheep’s visionary AI technology fused with our commercial-grade electric equipment opens doors to new possibilities. We’re creating quieter, cleaner communities and tools that think, adapt, and thrive alongside their users.”

Electric Sheep took a unique business approach

San Francisco-based Electric Sheep was The Robot Report‘s first RBR50 Robotics Innovation Award Startup of the Year winner in 2024. The company earned the title for its novel business plan, which enabled it to immediately bring in revenue while evolving its underlying technology.

Founded in 2019, the startup acquired landscaping companies as a key part of its long-term plan. Owning these companies enabled it to roll out its autonomous lawn mowers at its own pace and with its own employees on board every step of the way.

Powering its mowers is ES1, a learned-world model that enables reasoning and planning. Before partnering with Oso, Electric Sheep offered the RAM robot for mowing and the Verdie robot for edging and trimming lawns and bushes and blowing leaves.

With its new parent company, Electric Sheep said it can roll out new products, expand market reach, and establish collaborative workflows. The company said it plans to integrate AI for adaptive, hands-free operations; reduced labor costs and carbon footprints; and scalable systems that can empower landscapers and other outdoor workers to focus on growth.
