Comau S.p.A. continues to expand its collaborative robotics portfolio with MyCo, a new family of six cobot arms designed to support safe, flexible, and efficient human-robot teaming across a wide range of industries.
“With the launch of the MyCo robot family, Comau is taking yet another concrete step in accelerating its diversification strategy,” stated Stefania Ferrero, chief marketing officer at Comau. “We estimate that the global collaborative robotics market will see a CAGR [compound annual growth rate] of 15% from 2024 to 2028.”
“This growth is driven by rising demand in non-traditional sectors such as food and beverage, pharmaceuticals, renewable energy, and logistics, as well as increased adoption by small and medium-sized enterprises,” she added. “MyCo is a cost-effective and versatile response to these trends, offering a highly flexible, user-friendly, and transportable solution that supports safe and efficient operations in dynamic environments.”
Comau’s portfolio includes systems for vehicle manufacturing, shipbuilding, and other industries. The Turin, Italy-based company offers project management and consultancy services and has an internationally recognized training academy. It also has an international network of seven innovation centers and 11 manufacturing plants that span 11 countries and employ 3,800 people.
MyCo robots designed for ease of use
The MyCo family includes six lightweight force- and power-limited robots with payload capacities ranging from 3 to 15 kg (6.6 to 33.1 lb.) and reaches between 590 and 1,300 mm (23.2 and 51.2 in.). Comau said it designed the cobots for quick installation, intuitive programming, and easy deployment.
MyCo robots can help manufacturers shorten lead times, simplify integration, and adapt rapidly to changing production requirements, according to the company. With IP66 protection and advanced collaborative safety features, the cobots deliver reliable performance even in demanding industrial environments, it claimed.
Engineered for easy integration into dynamic production settings, MyCo is suitable for applications such as warehousing, intralogistics, packaging, arc welding, and light assembly, explained Comau. The cobots‘ ergonomic design enables close human-robot collaboration, improving operator well-being while optimizing floor space utilization and operational safety, it said.
Comau asserted that MyCo reflects its approach to automation, combining application and process know-how with user-friendly digital tools. Customers can select the best solution from the company’s portfolio of industrial and collaborative robots, or a combination of both, based on specific production needs.
The company said this flexibility is further enhanced by its advanced vision systems, Internet of Things (IoT) capabilities, and strategic partnerships with leading end-effector partners.
Comau lists features and benefits
Comau listed the following features of its new MyCo line:
- Rapid deployment: The cobots’ lightweight design and easy programming allow for quick installation and redeployment across various tasks.
- High precision: The robots offers repeatability as low as ±0.02mm, making them suitable for demanding tasks like arc welding.
- Flexible integration: Fully integrated with the Robot Operating System/ROS 2, the modular designs have internal cabling and versatile mounting options (floor, wall, ceiling, or inclined).
- Durability: Comau included standard IP54 protection against dust and water, with an optional IP66 upgrade for harsh environments.
- User-friendly: MyCo supports graphical programming, remote calling interfaces, and manual guidance (free-drive teaching).
Last month, Comau said it is contributing to the European Union’s CONVERGING project, which aims to advance smart and reconfigurable production systems. It includes the design and engineering of the medium-payload MyCo and on a remote inspection robot for the aerospace sector.
The European Investment Bank yesterday signed a €50 million ($58.9 million U.S.) finance contract to support Comau’s research, development, and integration activities for robotics, automation, and e-mobility.
