Among the exhibitors at MODEX next month in Atlanta will be leading robotics and component suppliers. NORD Drivesystems plans to show its latest advancements in high-efficiency gear motors, intelligent electronic control products, and modular automation.

The Bargteheide, Germany-based company said it designed them to optimize throughput and reduce total cost of ownership, or TCO.

NORD said MODEX 2026 attendees can visit Booth 14136 at the Georgia World Congress Center to speak with experts and learn how its decentralized technology is “redefining reliability” in modern warehousing and distribution centers. The company will showcase these specialized systems:

IE5+ synchronous motors

NORD Drivesystems claimed that its IE5+ permanent magnet synchronous motors deliver an extremely high efficiency of up to 95%, high power density, and significant energy savings.

Permanent magnet technology enables the motors to deliver constant torque and efficiency over a wide speed range, even at partial load and low speeds, it said. This not only makes them suitable for many intralogistics applications, but it can also reduce system variants, administrative expenses, and TCO.

Ventilated TEFC (totally enclosed, fan-cooled) versions feature finned housings for advanced heat dissipation in continuous duty applications. Smooth body, non-ventilated TENV (totally enclosed, non-ventilated) versions offer an easy-to-clean surface for hygienic environments.

NORD will conduct a real-time demonstration at its booth of the performance differences between IE3 and IE5+ motor technology.

Electronic control products

Electronic control products from NORD are available as centralized offerings for control cabinet installation or as decentralized versions for direct use on the application. This ensures the best solution for every system, asserted the company.

The entire NORDAC line is characterized by scalable functionality, ease of installation, and high precision regulation. NORDAC PRO variable frequency drives offer a compact control cabinet solution with a multi-protocol Ethernet interface, sensor-less current vector control that ensures constant speeds, and a multi-encoder interface for multi-axis control.

Decentralized systems include NORDAC LINK variable frequency drivesmotor starters, and NORDAC FLEX variable-frequency drives. NORDAC LINK offers full Plug-and-Play capabilities for easy installation and maintenance.

The company said the NORDAC FLEX drives are its most flexible electronic drives, with extensive optional integral modules and wide selection of functions. The full NORDAC portfolio will be on display at MODEX.

NORDAC ON/ON+ variable frequency drives

NORDAC ON/ON+ variable frequency drives are compact, decentralized systems optimized for the common requirements in horizontal conveyor technology. NORDAC ON is designed for use with asynchronous motors, while NORDAC ON+ compliments the high efficiency capabilities of IE5+ synchronous motors.

Both versions can be motor- or wall-mounted based on the application and space constraints. The drives also feature a powerful internal PLC for drive-related functions, full plug-and-play connections, and an integrated multi-protocol Ethernet interface for easy integration into modern automation systems.

NORD describes LogiDrive as a complete drive

NORD said its LogiDrive solution is a complete, standardized modular system designed to maximize efficiency in intralogistics systems such as warehouse automation, airport baggage handling, and post and parcel distribution. For every area, there are advanced versions using high-efficiency IE5+ synchronous motors and basic versions with IE3 asynchronous motors.

Advanced versions provide exceptional energy savings, significantly reduce the total cost of ownership, and minimize variants while basic versions offer a streamlined, cost-effective system. Both versions combine the motors with flexible gear units and intelligent, decentralized variable frequency drives for a modular plug-and-play solution configured to specific application needs.

NORDBLOC.1 helical bevel gear units

NORDBLOC.1 helical bevel gear units feature a lightweight, high-strength aluminum alloy housing that reduces the overall weight of the drive system for less structural stress on elevated conveyor lines. Their two-stage design provides high torque density in a compact footprint, making them ideal for tight installation spaces in automated storage and retrieval systems.

An open housing version provides excellent heat dissipation for high frequency areas, while a closed housing version offers an easy-to-clean surface for wash-down applications. Configuration options such as various input and output options, solid and hollow shafts, and versatile mounting make the drive highly adaptable to individual applications.

NORDBLOC.1 helical inline gear units

NORDBLOC.1 helical inline gear units are characterized by quiet, reliable performance and cleanliness in a compact design. They feature a unique bolt-free, smooth-surface design that NORD said is particularly advantageous for intralogistics and food and beverage applications.

Unlike traditional gearboxes, these units are engineered without assembly covers or bore plugs, eliminating areas where debris or bacteria can collect and making them incredibly easy to clean. Built using the high-strength UNICASE housing principle, the units ensure maximum torsional rigidity and high radial load capacities essential for the continuous, high-speed demands of conveyor systems and sorting facilities.

When combined with NORD’s modular motors and variable frequency drives, NORDBLOC.1 helical inline gear units can provide a low-maintenance, long-lasting solution that NORD said optimizes TCO through increased service life and reduced mechanical wear.

NORD to show Condition Monitoring for Predictive Maintenance

Condition Monitoring for Predictive Maintenance takes a status-based maintenance approach over a time-based one to proactively maintain machines and increase the efficiency of the entire plant.

Drive and status data are recorded periodically or continuously to detect poor operating conditions early, allowing for planned downtimes for maintenance. NORD said this will save operating, service, and material costs as well as extending the operating life of system components.

Collected data can even determine the optimal time to change the unit’s oil, ensuring systems are always operating at their highest capacity. At this year’s MODEX, NORD plans to show the latest version of its condition monitoring platform with an updated user interface and added functions.
